Unregulated Contaminants Found in Drinking Water in Public Water Facilities

Posted by

We all know by now that drinking water is one of the best measures we can use to improve our health. With our bodies being made up of at least 55% water (depending on your age and gender), it remains the single most vital element to our health. But there may be more to your water than you know and could be affecting that good health that you're working so diligently for.

Late last year federal scientists, performing a nationwide sampling of our US water facilities, found traces of 18 unregulated contaminants in water from more than 1/3 of those facilities. These contaminants included "11 perfluorinated compounds, and herbicide, two solvents, caffeine, an antibacterial compound, a metal and an antidepressant". These contaminants are not regulated and therefore there are no limits or standards for the utilities to adhere to. Protect yourself and your family from the possible negative health effects caused by contaminants in your drinking water with a home water filtration system from Buckeye Hydro.

Long-term health effects from exposure to these contaminants are not known but perfluorinated chemicals, like PFOA and PFOS, have been found by scientists to have a "probable link" to high cholesterol, testicular cancer, ulcerative colitis and kidney cancer. These common compounds, used in the manufacture of nonstick cookware, stain-resistant clothing and food packaging, have been detected in the blood of nearly every American.
